August 12, 2023, New York City: Picture this: It's 1982 and you are on a pleasure cruise, you’ve just lost sight of land, as the vessel chases the horizon, nary a white cap to be seen. The corks of fine champagne bottles have been launched into the brine, and abundant mounds of cocaine lie waiting in the cabin for those seeking adventure of a different kind. As the sun begins to set, the Captain calls for the smoothest of sultry tunes to accompany this revelry. Songs that echo tones of rock and folk, funk and reggae all with a soulful backbone, which at times are infused with the burgeoning electronic era’s new wave or a country twang. The softest of caresses, the easiest of ear tinglings, urging you to dance and mingle and enjoy life free of care, if but for this fleeting voyage. Clara Coquette and Captain Dover Whitecliff present a unique burlesque show that explores the mystical nether regions between land and sea, sand and stone, love and loss, soul and flesh.
